May 2016

Well, reading in English has become an important part of my life this semester. No, not because I am an excellent student but simply because I had to read so many books in order to fulfil my teachers' requirements. Below, there is a list of the books I had to deal with this semester.

On the other hand I must admit that all the books were very interesting. I liked reading about American history, especially the history closely connected with "the Indians problem" but later the reading became a little bit boring because I didn't like the period of industrialism.

I don't want to underestimate the importance of reading when learning English, I am aware that it is a really important part of my study in order to become better in English. Moreover, I've realized that the well known quote "Do not judge a book by its cover" is very true.

Reflection

At the end of the third semester I decided to read a book by Herman Melville "Moby Dick" but unfortunately it wasn't possible, because I had to read some other books. On the other hand I am not disappointed by the reading of the books. All of them were really interesting and especially "Huckleberry Finn" was a big surprise to me. I really enjoyed the reading because it was quite funny which I hadn't expected at all. I was able to read these books almost without using a dictionary (sometimes I had to use a dictionary, of course, but not very often). There were quite a lot of words I didn't know but I could recognise them on the base of the context. Moreover, I could see my improvement in English language, because I found a lot of gramatical mistakes in "Huckleberry Finn" (probably they weren't mistakes at the time of Mark Twain but nowadays they would be considered unacceptable) so I was proud of myself :-). I must say that I was a little bit unsitisfied with the fact that I had to read so many books in such a short time but now, when I am done with the books, I am absolutely glad that I've read them, because I am sure that thanks the reading I am better at English than I was at the end of the 3rd semester.
